The Trick's on Me :(

Halloween came and went to welcome the new month of November. I had not written in this blog for a week because of a rough weekend that gave me writer’s block and a terrible headache. To start, the horror movie night ended the day I wrote my last blog. So instead, I watched “The Haunted” and “Paranormal State” marathons which gave me enough goose bumps I can handle for the week. I was also busy getting my handmade costume together that was limited at a very small budget. Instead of my usual Indian costume that I made sure to get my money’s worth out of (it was pretty pricey so I wore it for three Halloweens!) I decided to choose a character I can afford and not have to spend too much $$ on. Can you guess who I was?

Lara Croft
Tomb Raider

My older stepbrother, PN Jr., is a video game animator and worked on the latest Tomb Raider game. I always wanted to be Lara Croft for Halloween ever since, but kept changing my mind. I decided: this Halloween, I think it’s time. I had the entire outfit, except for the guns and gun holsters of course. We headed to downtown Los Angeles to the Sewing Mecca aka Fashion District. I bought some straps, clasps, and black vinyl for under $6, and sewed the belts myself. The guns were harder to find and I did not want to scavenge through LA looking for plastic guns that most likely will be pricey. So I headed to the 99cent store, bought 2 toy guns, bought a can of silver metallic spray paint, and went to work.

Preparing my arsenol

Heck they’re not 9mm, but I thought they came out pretty awesome!

The Gun Show

I was very proud of my costume that I only spent $12 on. I was looking forward to wearing it for Saturday night at a Halloween house party that D was DJing for his cousin. D was going to be Clark Kent who was morphing into an evil Superman because of this kryptonite (aka green glow sticks) that was in his front pocket.  And as I was getting ready for the party, braiding my hair and putting that handmade gun holster on, I felt like I was so ready to raid a tomb. I was Lara Croft, Tomb Raider.

Unfortunately this is the only
pic I have of this costume,
after I drank the punch.

The party was jam packed with people in great costumes and thankfully I had my sorority sister, M.E. who was dressed up as a cute paramedic, to keep me company. I (aka Lara Croft) was thinking how cool it would be to like, jump off the roof and swing on a rope into the party crowd and make my grand entrance or maybe do some back flips onto the dance floor that ended in a cool pose with my guns held up…like what Lara would do. That would be so awesome! But I didn’t. So instead we socialized, met people, danced, and then drank this yummy punch. It was during my third cup when I realized I was so busy getting ready with my costume that I didn’t eat any dinner. Next thing I know, I’m sleeping on the sofa feeling nauseous, hugging my guns, and crying out for the evil Superman to please fly me home. Alas, he was too evil to come and save me (actually he was busy DJing) but still, I needed my bed. What was going on? I am Lara Croft and this is not supposed to happen! I was so disappointed! And so much for making use of that costume…I enjoyed it for only two hours and slept in it for almost three.

I spent Halloween Day drinking water, taking motrin, and writing a paper for my Implementing Business Strategy class. I didn’t even want to put my costume on. Lara is taking the rest of the year off folks.

So now that the Halloween festivities are done with and my headache is gone, I will now be concentrating on dhd. I'm trying to work dhd to fall into categories in addition to my dose of life blogging. First category will be about architecture and interior design. One of my projects has been my own home. I’ve lived in my LA apt for over three years and it was only until I stopped working full time (and got the traveling bug out of my system), that I had time to start fixing up the apartment. I will be posting some before and after photos of my place but please take note that we are renting the apartment so I could not do anything drastic and fabricate it to my desires, so expect minor changes. Not to mention, there is a key indication that we may be moving back to my beloved east coast sometime next year, so I better document this apartment ASAP. I will also be posting about some architect jobs that I have been working on here and there and my love of architect history. Second category will talk about my hands on designing, especially of what I have been trying to learn on my own…sewing.  I have many seamstresses in my family so it should run in the blood, shouldn’t it? Well so far so good. Like I said before, I have been sewing and selling my items. I’ve been building my inventory which you can see part of it below…

The Tote Bag collection

My mother, God bless her, was so proud that I took up this hobby that she helped me invest in a new Brother sewing machine! Is it possible to fall in love with a sewing machine because I’m so infatuated with it, I’m going to give it a name. This category will also include additional hand made products I come up with, drawings, designs, etc. And don’t be surprised if I include a recipe here and there because I’d think that would be considered handmade, wouldn’t it?  Third category will be my photography. I have numerous photos that I would like to share and I’m hoping that one day I will be able to afford the camera I need because my blurry Olympic is on its last leg. Until then, I hope you enjoy them and critic them if you wish. My fourth category will be about random thoughts, surprises, stories, and subjects I come across that generate happiness, content, and feelings of fulfillment. It’s a subject I’ve been searching for all my life and I’m starting to think the journey of my search is more interesting than the day I actually find the true meaning of it. I can be wrong, so who knows?

But, dear reader, I can tell you this: Happiness is definitely not in a bowl of shady punch that is yummy…at least not after the first 30 minutes of digesting it.

Ciao.
